As mysteriously synchronous as it may be, this new year has come along with one of the most cathartic epiphanies I’ve had in a very long time— I now realize how powerfully the negative thoughts I counted as fact in my life impacted the way I perceived and interacted with the world and the people around me. As unsettling as it is, those ideas I held onto were so powerful that they created a self-fulfilling prophetism that I, up until now, was never really aware of.
There’s something addictive about the negative ideas we attach to ourselves. Some of the statements I throw around like I’m always late or I’m not a morning person have become seemingly inherent facets of my identity.
